Purple Eternal were a noise/psyche band from Leeds. Formed late '80s they went on to record and produce numerous releases. The band gained many favourable reviews in the music press of the time, such as Sounds, particularly for their live performances which were quite often accompanied with an intense psychedelic light show. 2019 saw them release an LP of unreleased material recorded at the time with tracks produced and remixed by Jon Langford of Mekons/Three Johns fame and mastered by Rude 66, the Dutch electronic music guru, in 2019.
The music spans the life of the band from almost Birthday Party crossed with the Sisters of Mercy influence to the more psychedelic noise the band would learn to perfect in their own unique pre-grunge way. The drums were never allowed to be repetitive taking notes from Pink Floyd, Chrome and the Butthole Surfers, the guitar spiralled out of control while the bass swirled in the murky background and vocals emphasised angst and psychedelia in equal measures.
