purPle is an independent alternative band from Metro Manila, Philippines
Ice Coloma-vocals,guitars/Wewin Inonog-guitars,vocals/Sid Ongkingco-bass/Zig Inonog-keys,vocals, guitars,DAW
The name purPle was derived from the idea of mixture of different extremes. Like the color, which is a combination of red(happiness, passion,or anger/war) and blue (sadness or calmness).
Zig and his younger brother Wewin were musicians who served in a local Methodist Church. During the height of the Post-Grunge Era and the popularity of OPM alternative bands in the late 90’s, Zig formed the rock band Lemonade, recruiting Wewin with 3 others. The band played several gigs in the city. The band eventually became a duo of the siblings. They started a project that would feature a female vocalist-a vision of more melodic and pop-oriented songs combined with guitar-oriented alternative/rock. They began writing songs and asked their church-mate Ice to join. The project became the main focus of their musical output. By early 2002 purPle recorded a 3 track demo-featured in the NU107 In the Raw and also appeared in the show’s TV counterpart. Sid joined in 2003 and Wewin took over lead guitar duties.
By 2007, the band went on a hiatus. It was during this time that they recorded “Kung Maari Lang” at the Inonog Residence. This was the first collaboration between Ice and the Inonog brothers. The song was eventually shelved and never seeing the light of day for more than a decade.
