NYC transplant to Utah way back in ‘91, Q1 has made the Mountain West his home for 20+ years. Hip-hop has been in his blood since his days break dancing on cardboard at block parties in the 80’s. He brought his love of East Coast rap to Utah, bumping Wu Tang, Nas, A Tribe Called Quest, Rakim, The Fugees, Biggie, 2Pac with his new found Utah homies.
Q1’s style is influenced not only by the lyrical greats in Hip-Hop but from also Rock n’ Roll and Motown.
Q discovered his talent for writing bars when he was 30 years old! He joined a local group, Free Speech Syndicate, and began to make a name for himself in the local SLC and Utah County music scene. FSS, opened for the likes of Mac Lethal, Mega Ran, Nappy Roots and for their 20 year anniversary in 2012, Bone Thugs n’ Harmony.
2014, Q1 released his debut solo album, To End is to Begin. It garnered positive reviews from City Weekly and Slug Magazine. 2015, Q was nominated for City Weekly’s Best of Utah Rap/Rap Group category. He amassed the second highest votes and headlined one of the two performance showcases.
After a hiatus for the past 3 1/2 years to focus on work and family, Q is back with a vengeance with his new single, Kamikaze! Collaborating with local legend and Salt Lake’s resident Hip-Hop guru, Burnell Washburn, Kamikaze reintroduces Q1 back into the and reminds everybody that high level lyricism, in your face delivery and storytelling hasn’t gone away or been replaced by the trends of today’s Hip-Hop.
