We are four musicians from four different nationalities who recently met to form a quartet with two guitars, a cello and a double bass.
Our group interprets the music of the internationally renowned Brazilian composer Egberto Gismonti, a multi-instrumentiste who occupies a major role in contemporary music for guitar, piano and various ensembles and orchestras.
The music of Gismonti finds its source in the heart of Brazil. Stylistically, it is based on folk songs, rhythms and dances, but its innovative character is inspired by the harmony found in Ravel and Stravinsky. In addition, his approach and mixture with jazz offer to the performers a large spaces of improvisation. Notwithstanding different names, the genre of this repertory is between jazz and classical music.
Our project benefits from a precious support of Alexandre Gismonti, the son of Egberto who occupies one of the guitar parts of the quartet. Alexandre brings a precious light on the language developed by this music, on its writing and its secrets of interpretation.
