Rachel Cousins is emerging as one of Atlantic Canada’s most promising pop artists.
Since releasing her debut 5-song EP This Fire in 2017, Rachel has demonstrated her ability to weave pop melodies with folk, rock, and electronic influences. She was a part of the 2020 collaboration album Songs from Home was produced with funding from Music NL’s “Press On” program and showcased Rachel alongside Alan Doyle, Fortunate Ones, The Ennis Sisters, and The Once.
Rachel Cousins talent as a vocalist and songwriter is no secret in her home province, where she has collected 6 Music NL nominations and was named the Pop Artist of the Year for 2020 and again for 2021. In 2020 she also earned an East Coast Music Award nomination for her self titled album.
With her most recent single, “Aftermath”, Rachel Cousins offers a vulnerable-yet-polished piece of herself to the listener. CBC called the song a “soaring piano pop ballad” as it reached the top 10 of the national Searchlight Contest on June 15, 2021. At this pace, it’s no doubt that Rachel Cousin’s will soon burn up the pop charts.
