The individuals now known as Rainbowtruth first came together in the Summer of '94. A few thousand watts of overdriven amplification, a handful of psychedelic inspiration and a garage in need of insulation were a few of the key ingredients necessary to meld these four unique musicians into a single group. Ray Barnett sings, plays guitar and writes; Carlton Duff plays guitar and writes; Ethan Osborne plays drums and sings back-up; while Greg Bowers plays bass and writes.
Rainbowtruth began performing in clubs around the Mid-Atlantic region, concentrating their attention on the Fredericksburg, Richmond, Charlottesville, and Northern Virginia areas. Along with the Spring of '95 bloomed the bands first recording, an eponymous EP engineered by Larry Bailey of Plastic Jesus Studios . The songs offered a early glimpse into an unusual sound which is at once heavy, psychedelic and soulful. This recording received notable regional airplay and served as a quick fix for the band's growing fan base as well as an introduction to thousands of others.
After a brief regional tour in support of the EP, the members of Rainbowtruth began writing material for their debut national release, "over the counter and though the woods." The album was recorded from January to July of '96 by Chris Salamone in his 24-track studio in Fredericksburg and mastered by Eddy Shreyer of Oasis Mastering.
