Rana Khoury, a Palestinian artist from Haifa city. Her musical passion is to dig into the treasures of Arabic songs, putting her desire to reform its musical value, whilst presenting it in her own special way.
Cities of the Mediterranean Sea are considered to be an exquisite resource for Rana's musical choices. Together with her life partner; the musician Darwish Darwish, Rana searches for music and lyrics that are inherited by Morocco, Algiers, Egypt, Palestine, Lebanon and other Mediterranean countries . They seek to rediscover the beauty in this music, while Darwish courageously rearranges it, and Rana delivers it with her own interpretation. “I consecrate the original composition. Though I
believe that songs don’t close doors.. They rather open new spaces for our work”.
"We share this geography, wherever we are, we extend towards the gates that are opened to the world; the gates that are the shore cities. The cities in which stories of longing were born, longing for a land or a lover. Stories that are loaded with continuous travel , renewing, and desire to change".
A voice that sails between the Mediterranean cities
Rana Khoury has participated in many musical festivals and projects. She studied Musicology in Haifa University. During her studies, she met with her life partner Darwish Darwish; an Oud, Buzuk, and violin player, a composer & a music arranger, winner of the first prize in the international Oud competition in the Egyptian Opera house.
