Rantama

Rantama consists of four friends who met each other in a desolate, eastern town, surrounded by lakes and rocky eskers. Their childhood and adolescence consisted mostly of wild adventures in nature and the fearless acts of musical curiosity, fueled by their fathers’ wide record collections. The band has taken nuances from the stadium rock aesthetics of <a href="spotify:artist:0rvjqX7ttXeg3mTy8Xscbt" data-name="Journey">Journey</a>, elements from <a href="spotify:artist:162DCkd8aDKwvjBb74Gu8b" data-name="Weather Report">Weather Report</a>&#39;s zany jazz fusion, sensibility from <a href="spotify:artist:7M1FPw29m5FbicYzS2xdpi" data-name="King Crimson">King Crimson</a>’s exploding prog-rock imagery and perhaps a couple of brushstrokes from <a href="spotify:artist:0ybFZ2Ab08V8hueghSXm6E" data-name="Opeth">Opeth</a>’s and <a href="spotify:artist:4Z8W4fKeB5YxbusRsdQVPb" data-name="Radiohead">Radiohead</a>’s gloomy palettes. It also goes without saying that the band is continuing the overlooked legacy of the Finnish progressive rock and presenting it to the world with their own music.

Hailing from the lakeside town of Kuopio in eastern Finland, the band was formed in 2014, originally as an instrumental powerhouse trio by three close friends: guitarist Timo Rantama, drummer Iiro Laitinen and bassist Tatu Back. Another friend, singer Taavi Kiiskinen joins the ranks in early 2017, enhancing the sound dramatically and completing the newborn fourpiece in the best possible way. In early 2020, the band is ready to turn the next page with the soaring self-titled album that is sure to chart new territories, and that will grasp towards new heights among the roots and the family tree of its predecessors.
