Ravencloud's lyrics take place in a grim fictional setting titled “Dark Frontiers”: a ruinous world plunged into a futuristic ice age and populated by tribes ov therianthropic beings inspired by Mongolian and East-Asian folklore.
Therians are shape-shifters who can morph between human and animal form according to their tribal totem, thriving in a barbaric era ov strife and slavery where the strong cannibalize the weak and few industrial city-states are the last shadow ov civilization amidst the endless steppes ravaged by raiders and gargantuan wild beasts.
The storyline revolves around Ravencloud, a wandering sellsword ov Valravne ancestry (the raven tribe) and defector ov a mercenary army called the Margraves. Unable to comply with the increasingly ruthless and murderous orders ov his warlord, Ravencloud deserted the Margraves and he now roams the tundra like a rōnin on a quest for revenge against his former sire.
