Red Barnett is originally a music project of Haraldur V. Sveinbjörnsson, known to his friends and colleagues as Halli, a Reykjavik based singer/songwriter, producer and arranger who’s musical background lies both in classical and rock music.
His alter ego years developed in the beginning of the 21st century when he moved to Sweden to study classical composition. Many of the songs on his 2015 debut album 'Shine' emerged there in the quiet town of Lund.
As a true hermit sunk into his deeply personal project, Halli/Red Barnett wrote, played and recorded most of the instruments on 'Shine'. That being said, a number of dear friends and collaborators devoted their effort and hard work into the project. Most prominent are long time friends from his very first band and teammates in this project - Hannes Friðbjarnarson on drums and Finnur Beck on bass. These three put together their first band when they were 11 years old. One might say it is a sort of a reunion...
Debut album Shine won the 2015 Iceland Music Awards for 'Best Alternative Album'.
Red went to Rockfield Studios in Wales to work on the second album. Now a 6-piece band, Red Barnett recorded the songs live in the famous Quadrangle Studio. The album, 'Astronauts' was nominated Best Alternative Album and the song 'Astronaut' won Best Song of 2020 at the Icelandic Music Awards.
In 2024 EP-album Rise was released, a collection of 6 songs recorded between November 2023-January 2024.
