With big raspy vocals and deep lyrics from Wullie Ri ,booming tones from John Martin on the bass guitar, power chord changes from Darren and a fast tempo from Stevens Andrews, the Refuge Island concept is raw and will make your ears prick up to listen.
Launching in spring with a set of shows across Scotland, including supporting Brown Bear in Bakers on May 5, the debut single ‘Above Board’ is a modern love story with an edgy perspective. Written in half hour and recorded in a day, it a high energy sexy sound with matching swagger. Cameron Brisbane shot the video in a half-derelict, soon-to-be boxing gym in Saltcoats resonating with the bands hopeful ethos to take refuge in your passions.
Speaking about their debut single, Above Board, Refuge Island frontman Wullie Ri said:
“It’s all about the sound. Refuge Island is our to bring swagger back into the music scene. There’s a tide of talent out there but we want you to take a ride on our wave. We want you to listen to our music and get lost in it. It’s a no-nonsense big guitar sound with infectious melodies, that’s for everyone.
Influenced by The Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Libertines, The Stooges, False Heads, Trampoline and Slaves to name a few, the band is working hard on new material and will be touring across Scotland in a venue near you.
