Refuge.
We play rock n' roll and the blues, and are committed to promoting righteous music to a new generation.
The band started in 2016 when a few of us got together for a random jam session and realized that we weren't terrible... the beginnings of every band! So we learned a few songs, played them for friends, and came to dominate the hardcore middle school social scene.
Over time, we developed a strong preference for the blues, classic riff-driven rock, improvisation and jamming.
Although we are expats in Kenya (to one degree or another), we consider Refuge. a Kenyan band that happens to have family roots in the US, Bolivia, Eritrea, Ethiopia, UK, Belgium and Kenya.
Our influences are broad but some of the artists we listen to include the Allman Brothers, Ten Years After, Grateful Dead, Jethro Tull, Black Sabbath, Santana, Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton and blues greats such as Albert King, Elmore James and Buddy Guy.
We are named “Refuge.” because it represents what we are all about: somewhere to escape from the superficial, inauthentic music that fills our airways. But no throwbacks here... we believe the blues and rock n' roll are timeless and universal... and its our responsibility to help bring it to young people.
