Reid Genauer is an American singer, songwriter and band leader. In that capacity he first hit the national stage fronting the band Strangefolk and later as band leader of a second grassroots success story –
Assembly of Dust. Genauer’s success as a songwriter is evidenced by the engagement of his listeners, and the cast of musicians who have supported those songs. In addition to a gaggle of accomplished bandmates Genauer’s recordings have been gilded with guest performances from the likes of Bela Fleck, John Scofield, Mike Gordon, David Grisman and Richie Havens.
While Genauer is best know in context of Strangefolk and Assembly of Dust he traces his musical roots to songwriters including, Neil Young, CSN, Willie Nelson and the song writing team of Jerry Garcia & Robert Hunter. “ There is something very visceral and safe about playing music with other people. You can kind of hid in that setting” says Genauer “ but ultimately a song should be able to stand on its own and to some extent so should the singer and songwriter”
