Formed in the student district of Leeds in late 2010, the band quickly recorded their five-track EP Safe Beyond the Sea, released in February 2011. The lead single "Bruce Willis” gained viral attention, propelled by a low-budget music video. This helped the band rapidly cultivate a dedicated global fanbase, earning spots in numerous breakdown compilations and end-of-year lists. In the same year, they released the fan-favorite single “Pimp Game” and played a string of live shows. Other singles followed in 2012, and the band embarked on several UK tours. However, in early 2013, they chose to disband and pursue other musical ventures.
In 2024, Release The Kraken reissued their EP, along with several bonus tracks and previously unreleased demos. While there are no plans for a reunion, the band's legacy endures, with its members remaining active in various other musical projects. The impact of Release The Kraken continues to resonate within the underground deathcore scene to this day.
