Rheintraum is a Dutch krautrock collective founded in 2020 by composers Timothy van der Holst and Tim den Heijer, united by a shared fascination with analog sound exploration, hypnotic repetition, and cinematic atmospheres. Drawing inspiration from the pioneering spirit of German acts like Cluster, NEU! and Harmonia, Rheintraum channels the kosmische tradition through a contemporary, genre-fluid lens and creates instrumental music that is both immersive and intuitively improvised.
Their debut album, Rheintraum (2020), introduced listeners to a sonic world where motorik rhythms met ambient textures and analog experimentation. The record laid the foundation for the band’s signature sound: tactile, transportive and deeply rooted in the art of deep listening.
In 2024, the collective expanded with the addition of bassist Willem van Wordragen, whose presence added new depth and dynamic range to their live and studio performances. This evolution is reflected in their second album.
Rather than indulging in nostalgia, Rheintraum’s music produced by Phil Martin remains firmly anchored in the present. Their compositions unfold patiently, inviting the listener into a sonic realm that is as tactile as it is transcendent. With Radiophysik, Rheintraum continues to push the boundaries of krautrock, crafting music that resonates across time and space.
