A cat that wears many hats, Ria Boss is most well known for being a powerhouse musician, songwriter and performer. Soulful and dreamy, she is a reflection of all her neo-soul influences and ‘Cat Mama’, as she is affectionately nicknamed, finds her musical roots in the inspiring harmonies of Baptist spirituals and MoTown cuts. In the neo-soul influences of D'Angelo and Erykah Badu. In the careful songwriting of Nina Simone and Lauryn Hill. In the vocal depth and power of Jill Scott and Ella Fitzgerald.
Her THANKGODITSRIA run in 2018, which saw her release an EP every week for 11 weeks, was an impressive show of versatility and Boss came back in 2022 with her debut live album, “REMEMBER”, which was ranked the number 1 R&B Album of 2022 by Native Magazine.
She also hosts the show “Cat Mama World” on Oroko Radio, works as a creative team lead for Black Girls Glow and moderates and facilitates workshops and masterclasses around live performance and songwriting.
She also lends her curation expertise once a month in an Open Mic Night event in Accra, an opportunity to discover talent within her immediate community and a chance for artists to jam.
Boss has also founded her own creative art house,Kitty Palace, that caters specifically to the creative community in Accra, facilitating workshops, providing co-creation space for visual artists and also assisting in off site event productions.
She is currently based in her hometown, Accra.
