Like a sunburn that doesn't go away, like a holiday's crush depicted with nostalgia.
"I like when we talk about a moment that is immediately regretted, when we try to everlast the film of a second," says Kartell when he talks about Rivage, the project set up in 2018 with Alex Gonzalez, guitarist of the group Superjava and childhood friend.
"It's funny, fifteen years ago we recorded with Alexandre, and the music looked like what we do now.
There are also some sparkling tunes borrowed from rock yacht, with a strong emphasis on soft and sophisticated arrangements. All sung in a melodiously assumed French.
"We don't do this for fun, we love this French pop in the first degree, like Voulzy. These are very pure feelings."
Far from locking itself in a wave of soul, Rivage builds it's suspended moments around guests like Ferno and his sweet voice that resonates in echo. A sweetness directly drawn from the poetic and decomplexed melodies of the Doobie Brothers, sprinkled with meticulous arrangements that Michael Frank would not deny.
