New York rapper Rø’s music is subjective, yet the risk-taking style of rap, with the eccentrics of dancehall, r&b flows, and a carefree vibe. Delivering references to heartbreaks but turning them into success and calling out multiple subjects on numerous beats. Rø mentions most of his life directly in music which can come as selfish but having the mindset to take care of oneself. Rø has recently found slow but guaranteed success with the singles of “High Key” and “Quiet”, Rø over the past year has released his six-song ep, “Pink Eye”, in 2021.
Roland Jenkins Jr, whose parents both grew up in New York, his father is half African American and half Puerto Rican, and his mother is African American, was born and raised in Harlem, New York. He grew up listening to r&b and was a backup singer in a church choir and started rapping in middle school, naming himself “Roro” as it was a name given to him by most of his family members but later on shortened it to “Rø” as it felt more comfortable to him and a sign of his growth. He first joined the very small but growing group known as “Kage Hassuru” which had members who would constantly or not produce any work at all. Rø left releasing how much of a distraction the group had been for him but also a wake-up call to where his career was headed, so he left and started to strive for himself as an independent artist.
