“Rob Dowler’s Vanity Project”
“The Ceiling”(Thanks For Asking) is an autobiographical accumulation of personal and spectacle-based songs written over the past decade.
Featuring songs in studio form such as “Bouncy Castles”, “No Antidote” (Featured Previously On BBC Introducing), “Hello Yvonne” and a revised take on “Matchbox Bridge”, As well as new songs like “Daydream Passenger”.
An Alternative-Lo-fi & Folk-Rock album first and foremost with an eclectic blend of influences and inspirations including musical styles such as Art-Rock Jazz-Fusion, Gypsy Jazz, Afro-pop, Latin & Middle-Eastern Oud Music. Lyrically the music is quite blunt but also reserved at the same time & at times cynical but sometimes sensitive and occasionally humorous and metaphorically written from the lens of someone on the autistic spectrum.
While most of Rob’s ideas are abstract, everything he produces is put in place is for a reason. Much like a conspiracy theorist or detective would piece things together, Rob thrives on mystery and challenging his listeners to connect the dots within his musical and comedic ideas. Rather than fully disclosing his feelings like the typical artist, he is more set out to expressing mostly his thoughts by creating riddle like lyrics and contorting proverbial aphorisms and rules rather than merely referencing them.
So sit back, listen and hopefully find enjoyment in something within this series of songs.
