Robert Scott Thompson

Robert Scott Thompson is an internationally acclaimed, award-winning composer of contemporary music. Versatile and prolific, RST creates across a wide range of genres, including electronic and experimental pop, modern classical, new age, and avant-garde. However, his primary focus lies in experimental electroacoustic (acousmatic) and ambient music. Over a career spanning more than 40 years, he has released over 90 recordings, with works like The Silent Shore and Frontier regarded as landmarks in their respective genres.

Thompson earned his PhD in music composition from the University of California, San Diego, in 1990, where he worked with the Center for Music Experiment’s Computer Audio Research Laboratory. In 1991, he was honored as a Fulbright Fellow to Denmark and served as Composer in Residence at the Danish Institute of Electroacoustic Music. In 2007, the Institut international de musique électroacoustique de Bourges (IMEB) awarded him the prestigious Commande Commission, where he also held a residency as Composer in Residence.
