What was a prolific local rock band out of Connecticut is now a story with an end. Fronted by vocalist and songwriter Greg Sheffield , RockGati was known for catchy loud guitars and a grand yet quirky nature.
It began in 2017 with No Evil, when Greg formed a band with Evander Curbelo and Ziyad Ghalayini (later of Rednave). After playing their local Boys and Girls’ Club, Greg released projects like The Race and RNBW. In 2019, the Buddy EP hinted at the thematic focus to come. By 2020, with bassist Chelsea Vaughn joining, RockGati released Candy Cigarettes, embracing pop sounds.
2021’s Every Aardvark Drinks Green Beer Everyday introduced themes of nature, love, and Buddhism, with fan-favorite Count To Four becoming iconic. The record and shows earned RockGati a dedicated following. Minh Vu joined later that year, helping the band grow their CT fanbase and streaming success.
2022's singles revisited older material with a punk edge, leading to 2023’s self-titled, reworking tracks from The Race and RNBW. Packed shows across CT solidified their reputation, but mounting tensions ended in a public and controversial breakup, announced by Greg during their final show in July 2023.
Afterward, Greg formed nuVos while Minh and Chelsea started showgirl. Determined to close the chapter, Greg enlisted Kolby Evans of Blandest to finish Elephants. The first single, “Sleazeball,” released in Fall 2024, marked the end of pop music for unpopular people.
