Rodrigo Parejo is a Spanish flutist, composer, and arranger whose music blends jazz, world music, and creative music with Asian traditions—including Japanese and Javanese influences—cinematic textures, flamenco, Latin American, and folk sounds. His new album Nomads, recorded between Jakarta, Indonesia, and Spain with his international quartet, features chamber jazz compositions, a fresh version of the Mexican classic “La Llorona,” and the orchestral piece Samsara (Requiem) with flamenco singer El Perrete.
The album was recorded with Rodrigo Parejo (flutes, voice, compositions, arrangements, and orchestration), Sri Hanuraga (piano, keys), Kevin Yosua (bass), and Elfa Zulham (drums), combining lyrical melodies and improvisation with global influences. Samsara (Requiem) expands the sound palette with a string quartet and percussionist Javi Mojave, adding orchestral and flamenco depth.
The album draws inspiration from flamenco and South American folk, Japanese and Javanese traditions, modern jazz, Latin American music from Mexico, and cinematic, chamber jazz atmospheres. Shinrin-Yoku adds a subtle cinematic dimension, contributing to the album’s rich and varied sonic landscape.
Through its chamber jazz framework, Nomads invites listeners on a journey where cinematic atmospheres, improvisation, and the rich textures of world music converge.
