A collaboration between two artists who proved to be sympatico despite having seemingly little in common, Roger Lion was a project that featured singer and songwriter Joe Pernice, best known for his work with the Pernice Brothers and the Scud Mountain Boys, and Budo (aka Josh Karp), a producer and multi-instrumentalist who has worked with Macklemore, Grieves, and M.anifest. According to Pernice, the Roger Lion project came about when he received a message from Budo, who was interested in doing a remix of an old Scud Mountain Boys track. Pernice initially thought the note was a prank, but he was convinced that Budo was on the level, and became a fan after investigating Budo's solo album The Finger & the Moon. Budo and Pernice soon began working up material by exchanging files online, and without ever meeting face to face, they completed the debut Roger Lion album, which was released by Team Love Records in September 2015. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
