Rough Kids are unwinding then rewiring that part of the punk timeline where bands were getting weirder and getting faster at the same time. Like La Peste, the Proletariat, Adrian Borland’s Outsiders, the Saints, the Wipers when they’d come off so nervous and urgent and more recently the Observers or Vee Dee, Rough Kids attach pretty considered songwriting—the tracks here have at least as many moving parts as certain early automatic weapons—to a rhythm section so quick and focused it must be chasing something it wants to eat. -LA Record
