Born from the spirit of resistance and the soul of tradition, Lya Gaye, formerly known as Royal Messenjah, is a dynamic artist whose sound bridges continents and generations. Rooted in the storytelling legacy of the West African griot, Lya Gaye channels ancestral rhythms into a bold, new sonic experience he calls Dance Mbalax, a fresh fusion of traditional Gambian and Senegalese sounds with modern urban energy.

First emerging in the reggae scene as Royal Messenjah, his early work echoed messages of identity, struggle, and liberation. But as his journey deepened, so did his sound. With the rebirth into Lya Gaye, he sheds boundaries to embrace his core: Mbalax infused with Ndaga-inspired beats, live percussion, and unfiltered truth telling.
