ROYAL

Shaunak Roy, also known as ROYAL, is a Bengali-American multi-instrumentalist, singer, rapper, songwriter, and record producer. He coined the term "Neo Desi" to describe his artistry and creates in a variety of languages, genres, and styles. #thatstheroyalty

Originally trained in Western classical piano, he began producing and arranging music in high school and honed his craft through his collegiate tenures with Dhamakapella and Case Kismat Fusion Dance Team. After graduating, he embarked on his musical career as ROYAL, initially creating fusion mixes, mash-ups, and a Cappella arrangements.

In late 2019, ROYAL's acoustic refix of Jaz Dhami and Eren E's Bomb Bae made waves online, with Dhami himself sharing the refix. Encouraged, ROYAL began working to establish himself and his auditory brand in the Desi music industry. He has since gone on to collaborate with a wide range of upcoming & established artists. His solo releases including Amaderi Same Pride, Eshe Gechi, Shonona, Shoriye Dao, and ADDA uniquely fuse Bangla & English lyricism with a diverse palette of sounds and instruments. In 2021, ROYAL was invited to give a TEDx Talk about his journey and how he strives to express the totality of his identities in his music.

ROYAL released his debut album "shaunak" in April 2023, led by the singles "from the land" and "dosh".

Alongside his musical endeavors, ROYAL is a physician currently in general surgery residency.
