A new signing to dancefloor titans Glasgow Underground, self-taught producer Roze Wild’s unique take on tech-house combines with her own melting vocals, commanding the dancefloor to “move it, shake it, take it” on her debut single ‘Polkadot’.
The 25-year-old’s journey to developing her distinct sound takes from barn parties in the Suffolk countryside to a year living in Spain - and her production hero Chris Lake.
Growing up, Roze was exposed to classical music, opera and blues, and danced around the house as a toddler to the syncopated rhythms of Brazilian jazz records.
At 17, she had her first introduction to dance music at the most Suffolk of events: a barn party. Soon she was curating the playlists, testing out her skills as a selector. While her popularity as a DJ grew among her DIY rave circle, Roze was drawn to carve out her own sound.
During lockdown Roze levelled up her skillset, teaching herself production on Ableton via YouTube. In March 2021, Glasgow Underground put out a call for demos from female producers. Roze sent in a track featuring five chopped samples from a Puff Daddy interview - and woke up to an invitation to collaborate the next day.
In 2022 she feels she’s now living up to her new nom-de guerre. “At school, I was picked on for being the quiet one. But now, making music that's totally my own sound, embracing all I stand for, I keep thinking: I wish those people could see me now. Because I’m not the quiet one anymore.”
