Formed in Tokyo in 2022, rubens began performing with its current lineup — Serena (Vo/Gt), Etsu (Gt), Mary (Ba), and Matsumaru (Dr) — in April 2023. The band has released eight singles and two EPs to date. Their 2024 single “Tenshi-san” drew widespread attention both in Japan and overseas, with its music video surpassing 1.2 million views on YouTube. Known for their evocative live performances, rubens made waves with their set as the opening act for indigo la End at LIQUIDROOM in December, and went on to sell out their first-ever one-man show at Shindaita FEVER in January.
Amid growing acclaim for their latest single “Tsukinami-chan,” which showcases a bold New Wave and Post Punk –inspired sound, the band has embarked on their first national tour starting this October. Their debut full-length album MELT is set for digital release on October 29, followed by an exclusive CD edition available through Tower Records on November 5 — marking rubens as one of the most exciting young acts to watch in Japan’s alternative scene.
