Rue is a Calgary based studio band inspired by the do it yourself aesthetic of bands like The Velvet Underground and Pavement, combined with the verbose lyrical stylings of Bob Dylan and fellow Canadian Leonard Cohen, and wrapped in the blame it on yourself ascetic of Catholicism.
From the early jangle of acoustic guitars, to the aping of noise rock shoe gaze pioneers My Bloody Valentine, to the synth driven drum machinations of later works, Rue has continued to evolve and change their sound since first flirting with the public in the early 2000s.
While founding members, Shawn Stack and Kevin Bryanson are usually writing and producing all the music themselves, they have on occasion sought the well respected Edmonton producer Deadsey and the angelic voice of Brenna Rose to help bring a greater depth and nuance to their sound.
