Rufus, alias of Ben Lobban, is a music producer and artist based in Edinburgh, Scotland. He is known for blending elements of modern pop and RnB with a passion for sculpting rich sonic palettes. He draws influence from artists such as Mura Masa, Bon Iver, Bombay Bicycle Club, The 1975, and Little Dragon.
In 2020 Ben took on the moniker of Rufus and in early March released his electrifying debut single “Tongue”. Co-written by and featuring on the track is fellow Edinburgh-based artist Dahlia. Rufus also teamed up with director & cinematographer Matthew Dunsmore to create a music video to accompany the release. In November 2020 Rufus released his follow-up single “Settle”. The introspective instrumental track was created as a reminder to take a breath and be calm during the chaos and uncertainty of the times we are living in. Rufus drew inspiration from his own experiences:
In February 2021 a collaboration with sarya, "6075 // I miss you", was released. Rufus had this to say on the single, “I had never found an artist that put across such rich and relatable emotions so succinctly. When sarya sent me a demo of 6075 // i miss you, I could instantly feel the aching heart of the song and the sorrow of being separated from a person and a place.” sarya describes the song as being about the deep pain that comes from being unable to live where you belong.
