Born and Raised in Savannah, Ga. "Ruga Da Jewel” as a kid Growing up in the Housing Project’s on the Eastside of Savannah known as “Garden Homes”, experienced day to day life growing up in a high crime and drug infested area.
During “Ruga's” childhood, he was separated from his family,due to his mother going to prison a very early age.” Ruga” then started going from different Group homes to Foster Homes and eventually landing in a group home in the Blackshear Public Housing projects called The “Granny's House" located on Rockefeller St on eastside and foster home in Bacon Park area in the Southeast side of Savannah.
“Ruga Da Jewel” , the rapper emerged around the age of 9. He was heavily influenced by rapper Master P . It was all his mother his mother , who upon her release and their reunion who always played Master P and music from the No Limit Records arsenal of hits during the late 90’s and early 2000’s. . It would only makes since when many consider the city of Savannah “ Baby New Orleans “ ,and Master P had a huge influence on the city of Savannah around that time.
“Ruga” started experimenting with singing after watching the movie "Why Do Fools Fall in Love". When he would become overwhelmed by the problems of his immediate surroundings , he would turn to singing and rapping , because he felt as if it healed his soul and gave him some temporary serenity in a chaotic world.
“Ruga” like many of the of misplaced youth of urban cities graduated from group homes,
