“[Dark Side of the Ocean is] the best album I’ve heard this year! It’s a perfect album.” - Dave Hawkins, The Antidote (Radio Show on Effect Radio)
The Nashville band -- named after frontman Russ T. Shipp -- likes to call their sound Nautical Rock 'n' Roll. They strive to bring the listener into a multi-dimensional, artistic experience that integrates music, narrative story-telling, illustration, and video to create a voyage into their underwater world, all to the tune of the catchiest melodies you’ve heard since bands like The Beatles and Foo Fighters.
Rusty Shipp won TWO prestigious awards — Song of the Year (Rock) for “Living Waters” in the 2023 Josie Music Awards (Largest Independent Music Awards) and Alt Rock Song of the Year for “Bottom of the Barrel” in the 2023 Grizzly Awards. The album Dark Side of the Ocean’s singles “Bottom of the Barrel,” “What’s Kraken?,” and “Living Waters” rose to the top 10 most played rock songs in the nation on BigBigHit’s USA Rock Hits/Breaking Rock Top 10 charts, RadioU’s Top 10 Most Wanted Songs (per listener requests), and Christian Music Weekly’s radio chart (#6, #9, #8), among other charts. It was also named #1 album of 2022 by The Antidote (show on Effect Radio) and #5 album of '22 by JesusFreakHideout.com.
