One of the most important proponents of rural rock, Ruy Maurity had hits with "Serafim e Seus Filhos" and "Nem Ouro Nem Prata" (both with Zé Jorge). Several of his works also appeared in the Globo Network soap operas Fogo Sobre Terra, Dona Xepa, and A Escalada, as well as in Manchete Network's Ana Raio e Zé Trovão ("Estradas do Interior"). Son of the first violinist of the Orquestra Sinfônica do Teatro Municipal Iolanda Maurity Santos and Antônio Adolfo's brother, Maurity taught himself violão (acoustic guitar). In 1970 he won the Festival Universitário in Rio de Janeiro with "Dia Cinco" (with Zé Jorge). He recorded his first album in the same year, Este é Ruy Maurity (Odeon). ~ Alvaro Neder, Rovi
