"I want to take it easy but I can't slow down" are the opening words to S. Lois' song The Box, a song that is the title track to the third studio album of the dutch singer songwriter. Life is a heavy freight train, not slowing down for anything and we might as well accept it and jump on, S. Lois seems to be saying. While songs from his previous albums The Quarter (2020) and The Mountain & The Ghost (2022) felt rooted in family and home life, The Box introduces imagery of blue collar work days. The daily grind as a muse, not glorifying the success story, but embracing the normalcy of getting through the week.
The album was written, recorded and produced at home, leaving a traditional approach and diving into a more experimental singer songwriter sound. The stripped-down guitar songs feature a subtle banjo and telecaster on some occasions and guest vocals by Nashville artist Rachel Baiman, Tangarine and Milène van der Smissen.
The Box will be released on all streaming platforms and vinyl on October 4, 2024
