Piss in the snow, blow off some steam.
“It feels a little humid in the air. As much as I love songs with a clear story, there’s something to be said about creating an overall mood. “Jumping & Playing” does just that; a mix of despair, desperation, and unearned euphoria. Released on a double A-side with “Mutt Love” in April, the young Greater Sudbury band shows promise and intent in their arrangement. It has a thoughtful build, making use of intertwining pedal-soaked guitars to form both tension, and a greater sense of freedom. Their makeshift studio setup and DIY approach adopt an “[embracing] all of the imperfections” logic, and I’m not surprised to hear what I’d call calculated apathy in their psych rock sound. It’s cloaked in some level of misery but remains smartly playful, and fortunate for listeners, Saint Bernard is eager to please.”
