Sitting in the backyard strumming an old acoustic guitar and writing songs. The standard California image made for the magazines. But this is exactly how Saint Elsinore got started.
Producer/ Songwriter Brad Gordon has an old guitar. In fact he has many. Silvertones, Epiphones, Stellas, Harmonys, and Regals. None are fancy collector's items. Mostly cheap resurrected swap meet antiques. But they're all old and have their own unique sounds and stories to tell. Guitars also need maintenance -- restringing, fixing, adjusting. It never ends. It's all just an excuse to sit outside and play with them in the backyard.
Sometimes a random picking pattern is worth recording onto a quick voice memo. Then it's forgotten amongst the piles of ideas. Occasionally they're passed to a musician friend. Or another idea is passed to Brad.
“Wild World”, the debut single from Saint Elsinore, came from one of those nearly forgotten memos. The pattern evolved while picking on a newly restrung Silvertone. Soon a melody and outline of a song came into view.
Why not phone a friend? Pass it on?
Brad Gordon was born and raised in New Orleans where he absorbed many of the styles and rhythms that surrounded him. As a live musician, you've seen and heard him on tour and in the studio as a multi-instrumentalist for Vance Joy, Semisonic, ZZ Ward, Dan Wilson, The Weepies, and on the Hotel Cafe Tours with Sara Bareilles, Brett Dennen, Ingrid Michaelson, Joshua Radin, & many more.
