Sal originally started playing bass for Mungo Jerry and Screaming Lord Sutch. Soon after he decided to start his own new wave band which Ray Dorset managed for a while. The band was called Hi Fi and after a few years playing the punk circuit were signed by WEA with whom they released the albums ‘Towns and Bars’ and ‘Sing Song’ and were most successful in Germany. http://hifithesilence.blogspot.com
Eventually Sal decided to go solo and went to Morocco to learn the music there. He fused the NW African beats with a Moog synthesiser and wrote some big choruses to go on top. He didn’t have to wait long and was immediately signed by Arista Records. famously walking in off the street with two tracks and coming out with a £285,000 deal.
His first album ’Shimmer’ became the soundtrack to the Eckhart Schmidt film ‘Die Story’ which went on to become the biggest grossing film in middle europe for that year. He then wrote soundtracks for the movies ’Das Wunder. ‘Alpha City’ and ‘Wie Treu Ist Nik?’ in which he starred as lead actor.
Sal then spent two years in Portugal (mostly drunk) where he recorded the whimsical albums ‘Wooden Cup’ and ‘Eagle Hill’.
He then spent time in Buddhist monasteries in Thailand to straighten up.
Recently (2020) Sal wrote the soundtrack for the movies ‘Generation X - Da War Ein Himmel’, 'Dance, Salome!' and still writes for film and TV in many genres, and still releases his own material, most recently the albums 'Heroic' and the 'Tribal Lockdown' series.
