saliYah is the project of 23 year old Brooklyn based black queer artist and producer Tommy Jammer. As a reflection of identity & emotional being, they create sacred spaces which allow the listener access to their world via experimentation of sound & voice. Their music interpolates themes of gender and sexual identity, mental health, activism, and their own tense relationship between body and self.
Through their work, saliYah is conveying a dialogue of the politics of accessibility and the black trans experience to the world and in the same breath, forcing the audience to look at their own selves and what part they play in that experience.
Their latest release, “No End & No Beginning,” is a reflection of the emotions of isolation felt going to raves alone after moving to NYC. Featuring an Arthur Russell cover, atmospheric breaks, and recordings of said raves, saliYah immerses you in their world once more.
