“Nascent North-Eastern groove-pop outfit Salsola” (Earthly pleasures blog, March 2019) are a 4 piece band from Teesside that have been making a name for themselves since late 2017. Some of their most notable bookings to date include playing the Georgian Theatre for BBC Tees Introducing as part of the BBC Big Weekend Fringe Festival, Darlington’s Last Train Home, Songs from Northern Britain and Stockton calling. The band also supported Dutch low-fi outfit Pip Blom on the Newcastle leg of their 2018 tour as well as sharing the stage with Fun Loving Criminals, The Futureheads and Reef at Corbridge Festival. The band also performed their own headline show at Stockton’s Green Room and have featured regularly on BBC Radio Tees, Amazing Radio and Spark FM.
Since forming Salsola have released a steady stream of singles and after keeping busy during the pandemic performing live streams for the Georgian Theatre and BBC Introducing, among others. Salsola used the time in the pandemic to develop their style through different approaches to writing and improvising as a band. Becoming less rigid, creating a more soulful and organic sound. Heartbreaker is the first release showcasing this new approach.
