With its original line-up of Stevie Smith (vocals / harp) Mick Clarke (guitar) Stuart Mac McDonald (bass) SALT was a big hit on the English club and college circuit in the 70s. The band played at the Reading Festival in 1977 as well as opening for Muddy Waters at his major London concert that year. Drummers included Alan Platt, Tony Fernandez and Slash.
SALT was formed in South London in the mid 70s, building a strong following at clubs including The Marquee, Dingwalls, The Music Machine and the Bridgehouse, Canning Town. There were regular jams at the band's home base The Half Moon in Herne Hill, and the band played college and uni dates across the country.
One EP was released "All Wired Up". The band played with several of the first punk bands including the Sex Pistols, and in 1978 morphed into RAMROD with Lou Martin and Rod DeAth. SALT reformed in 2011 for occasional tours and club dates.
SALT is remembered by many as one of the brightest lights of the London scene in the 70s. John Peel said that they "set his feet most furiously to tapping". More info at www.mickclarke.com/SALT/homepage.htm
