Sam Holladay is an eclectic and innovative band from Toronto, Ontario that combines elements of Indie music with Math-Rock, Alternative, and Folk-Rock twang.
After their first EP, Ainslie, Sam Holladay adopted a sharper focus and increasingly intricate arrangements, recording ‘The Arch’ at Catherine North Studios with producer Dan Hosh (City and Colour, Arkells) and mastering artist Greg Calbi (Fleet Foxes, Bon Iver) in 2019. While the COVID-19 pandemic slowed the band’s ascent, they have returned from the pandemic with singles ‘Waves’ and ‘Come Home’ off their self-titled debut album to be released on February 24, 2023.
Recorded in a cabin in Northern Ontario, Sam Holladay’s self-titled debut album marks a point of growth and maturity for the band, taking listeners through a contemplative and poetic exploration of themes of love, loss, faith, and reprieve in the natural environment. The single, “Come Home” grapples with the true story of a Mother diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer who is newly contemplating faith, life, and death. The song progressively builds towards an ultimate refrain of the main chorus, “Come Home, Momma,” in A Capella, where the woody, warm vocal tones express the ultimate point of the song—to be grateful for every moment we have with those who are loved and then lost.
