SAMBA is a French-born, London-raised singer/songwriter. After playing alongside Syron in her earlier years and pre-lockdown performances at Hoxton Underbelly and Shoreitch’s Ace Hotel, SAMBA released her debut single “Another One” on the 21st September 2020. SAMBA’s not pining for anyone-she starts with “let me tell you something about me, I have beauty, brains, and body.” Channelling 1990s R&B inspirations Brandy and SWV, SAMBA sings dry observations about the world and lists off reasons why the listener would be lucky to have her in tightly layered turns of voice (“they say south girls are really freaky/giving you another reason to love me”). If Daria was French, lived in southeast London and made R&B, it would sound like this. SAMBA’s sweet, seductive voice floats over a slinky beat and electric guitar, and her vocals veer coolly into unexpected harmonies. Another One’s hook came to SAMBA while jamming with “Another One”’s producer, Emmavie. The video for “Another One” will be released in October ahead of her EP this winter.
