Born in Stuttgart in 1968, Samuel Kummer studied church music at the State University of Music and Performing Arts in Stuttgart, where he was taught by renowned organists such as <a href="spotify:artist:3IIoMNN3nweU4h0qTgYftG" data-name="Christoph Bossert">Christoph Bossert</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:4zVAJGkmqNJjPUkKNjR1pQ" data-name="Werner Jacob">Werner Jacob</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:0kEMdtPtbDi7oNiqQcZEvL" data-name="Ludger Lohmann">Ludger Lohmann</a>. He also studied improvisation with Willibald Bezler, <a href="spotify:artist:4cFnd7Yh4DEwnxPOa6nXet" data-name="Wolfgang Seifen">Wolfgang Seifen</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:23dT0BIOlkZHRsdbcQqQjO" data-name="Hans Martin Corrinth">Hans Martin Corrinth</a>, winning an award for organ improvisation upon his graduation in 1997.
Samuel Kummer has performed at many prestigious venues and festivals across Europe, Russia, the USA, Central America and Japan. As a guest soloist, he has appeared with the Russian State Philharmonic, the <a href="spotify:artist:3Vfvyx6OouTxYU3emXonW7" data-name="Staatskapelle Dresden">Staatskapelle Dresden</a> and the <a href="spotify:artist:03C9IJtseK0NX9zw53URjF" data-name="Dresdner Philharmonie">Dresdner Philharmonie</a>. In 1996, he was awarded the first prize at the "Concours L'Europe et L'Orgue" in Maastricht.
Since 2005, Samuel Kummer has been the organist of the Dresden Frauenkirche, where he established the Dresden Organ Cycle, a joint organ recital series with the Kreuzkirche and Dresden Cathedral, as well as a number of other concert and recital series. He teaches organ playing and improvisation at the Hochschule für Kirchenmusik Dresden and served as a juror at the ION competitions in 2016 and 2018.
Samuel Kummer has recorded several albums of organ works by Bach, Duruflé and Vierne, which have received critical acclaim and high rankings in the classical charts, and regularly collaborates with radio stations such as WDR, BR and MDR.
