Garnering praise from the likes of CLASH, Loud & Quiet, London in Stereo, Louder Than War, American-Armenian art-rap collective Samuum create music and creative concept that challenges the norms of Middle Eastern Culture.
“The Middle East has changed for good,” comments Samuum’s lead singer Lusine Kocharian.
“And with it – the mentality and the inner world of a Middle Eastern girl. My songs reflect this zeitgeist. Recognising myself as a part of the Armenian and Middle Eastern culture, loving it, and yet, exposing its “dark sides” – this is what Samuum is about.”
Samuum's music sounds desert-like and chopped, as if Chrystal Castles locked themselves in an underground studio
somewhere in Tangier with Tinariwen. Band’s upcoming debut album is to be a mix of Armenian ethno-EDM, punk
and hip-hop. This combination is set to help illustrate the long-awaited opportunity for a Middle Eastern woman to
finally use her hidden power in its entirety.
