Sarah Jane Nelson

Sarah Jane Nelson is a Nashville based country/Americana artist influenced by Brandi Carlile, Bonnie Raitt, Trisha Yearwood, Miranda Lambert, Mary Chapin Carpenter, and Reba McEntire.

Her story is the stuff movies are made of. A girl in Star City, Arkansas spent summers traveling to bluegrass festivals, the curly-haired girl dancing to fiddles and banjos. The utopia is interrupted when her idyllic home breaks up, rocked by infidelity, and her world is turned upside down. She retreats to the radio, back to her sad country songs. In the aftermath, she puts her college plans on hold, and in a few short years, this small-town girl makes her Broadway debut. Fast forward a few years when history catches up to her and she’s playing the part her mother originated, blown sideways by cheating. As a newly single mother, she turns back to the country and gospel music from her childhood, writing her way to resilience, through the grief, and toward love.

With her newest album, “I’m Not Broken,” Sarah Jane Nelson adds her own defiantly triumphant voice to the Americana-Country field. These songs come from the decidedly Americana truth of a single mother hanging onto a dream through unexpected changes, a keenly observant writer telling a universal story born out of her own specifics, and finally, the twirling little girl in the festival fields. “I’m Not Broken” is the record Sarah Jane Nelson was born to make.
