Saul Kushty is one of many artists helping to carry the torch for UK hip hop beyond the confines of London. Hailing from North Devon, he has been gradually building up his repertoire and working towards finding his own sound, spurred on by a deep running love for the culture as a whole. Having first been introduced through his mother’s musical tastes, it wasn’t long before Saul was seeking out his own favourites amongst the abundance of artists that populated the 2000’s rap world. From there he migrated to the UK’s burgeoning grime scene, where he found another dose of inspiration from binge watching all the freestyle videos and bars sessions he could get his hands on. Then there was a left turn in his exploration and found himself inspired by artists like MF Doom, Kanye West & Nas, who properly inspired his pen game, and to start recording and releasing music. While he is still searching for his ‘trademark sound’, you can already hear the passion and enjoyment of the artform instilled in his music. Writing is a cathartic practice for Saul, which is another positive angle that shines through in his bars. Fast forward to 2021 and we find him on the verge of more releases, while still steadily sharpening his skillset. First up will be the release of the new single, Skyfall, followed on by further collaborations with regular creative sparring partners, Raf and B.wmind.
