From the grimy depths of London’s music underground, a new melodic death metal force emerges. On 8 November 2024, five-piece Scale of Attrition lets loose two EP-length tracks of exceptional ferocity and grace through boutique label Drowning Sea God Records.
The band includes members of <a href="spotify:artist:6btGSsVOCT13tCWYo8R77o" data-name="Meridian Sun">Meridian Sun</a>, much lauded for what Doom Charts called ‘one of the great debuts of 2023’, and <a href="spotify:artist:5iAXLvryITCyijWrWBCAyQ" data-name="Decades in the Shadows">Decades in the Shadows</a>, whom Metal Hammer Germany praised for ‘so much concentrated talent and compositional skills’ on their 2022 debut EP.
Scale of Attrition takes songwriting cues from genre greats <a href="spotify:artist:57ylwQTnFnIhJh4nu4rxCs" data-name="In Flames">In Flames</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:6YXarbjg36ODFPez0PnOlD" data-name="At The Gates">At The Gates</a> and infuses those with the groove and thrash riffing of <a href="spotify:artist:3JFsVIxOn7STeilPICkkB2" data-name="Lamb of God">Lamb of God</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:28hJdGN1Awf7u3ifk2lVkg" data-name="Testament">Testament</a>.
The release comes with cover art by Thomas Lacey (<a href="spotify:artist:7nbRZq795Otl0X07eY6M4E" data-name="Cower">Cower</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:7uw1sdrPQ0KF1BqLdz3wWA" data-name="The Ghost Of A Thousand">The Ghost Of A Thousand</a>). The artwork is based on Gustave Doré’s The Eagle from Dante’s The Divine Comedy – a perfect accompaniment to the band’s death metal roots and modern ambition.
