Scotch Funeral is the alias and creative project of Rhyl ex-pat, now Bangor-based artist Adam James, blending garage punk, no-wave and lo-fi indie into raw, emotionally charged songs.
Beginning with DIY bedroom recordings in 2012, the project has evolved through personal struggles, sobriety, and years of experimentation into a cathartic outlet rooted in lived experience.
Drawing inspiration from the likes of Daniel Johnston, Van Gogh and Manic Street Preachers, Adam channels experiences, nostalgia, and resilience into urgent, autobiographical music.
The new album Ever & Ever (2025), recorded by Russ Hayes and featuring drummer Steve Wills, marks the project’s most fully realised statement to date, honest, intimate and unflinchingly human.
'This is a record with swagger, confidence, and not a hint of arrogance. It’s garage rock gold — a baptism in fuzz, a celebration of distortion.'
- Neil Crud, Louder Than War
‘If rumble tumble grunge fuzz-soaked guitar is heaven to your ears, then this fine album by Scotch Funeral is for you; an album of true indie rock ‘n’ roll.’
- Brian Bordello, Monolith Cocktail
‘It's disenchantment personified, but also overcome in the same moment’
- Adam Walton, BBC Wales Introducing
