Scotch Mist is an album band that finds deep satisfaction in creating cohesive records, the way they grew up listening to music. Members Ed (lead vocals/guitar), Gianluca (bass/production), and Fern (guitar/production) hail from Venezuela and Brazil, drawing influence from 70s and 80s rock.
The project began as a DIY experiment by Ed, with guidance from Fern as well as Matthew Lewin of <a href="spotify:artist:1oPRcJUkloHaRLYx0olBLJ" data-name="Magdalena Bay">Magdalena Bay</a>. Early on, Ed developed his voice as a songwriter, finding footing through singles like <a href="spotify:album:2pHBkeamMpZY0inPhPAl1H" data-name="Big Red Button">Big Red Button</a>.
In 2020, Ed was introduced to Gianluca and the two began writing songs like <a href="spotify:track:3aTPb982Ky45vM9MzIJ8DN" data-name="yeahyeahyeah">yeahyeahyeah</a> that would later become the album <a href="spotify:album:4KdYbfQP5G1sqcqbHxSeeZ" data-name="crybaby">crybaby</a>, Scotch Mist’s debut and first as a trio. Following the sudden passing of Ed’s girlfriend Lydia in 2019, the record became a way to process grief through music.
Gianluca brought a collaborative ethos, recruiting jazz musicians from the NYC scene and focusing more on performance, emulating production processes of their favorite albums, all distilled into their sonic signature.
Their second album, <a href="spotify:album:0vwZRg44EvPwKdwRGul4Us" data-name="Cabo Blanco">Cabo Blanco</a>, brought Fern and Gianluca further into the fold, blending disco, psych rock, and indie pop. Featuring Mica of Magdalena Bay on <a href="spotify:track:6Gk3zra5HGE0IqrLIgrjsB" data-name="Alright">Alright</a> and Sir Chloe on <a href="spotify:track:6jEFmwsEWBlN2yLdUBkd1j" data-name="Let Go">Let Go</a>, it introduced a more confident side of the band.
The latest single <a href="spotify:album:0ovn0lpsDEUTtB8KCPgCLx" data-name="Patterns In The Sky">Patterns In The Sky</a> channels the sophistication of late-70s city pop and jazz rock. What began as a solo experiment has grown into a collaborative trio defined by passion and the pursuit of timeless albums.
