Tenor saxophonist Scott Burns is a swinging, forward-thinking musician who has worked as both a solo artist and in-demand sideman since the late '90s. A native of Dayton, OH, Burns first studied music at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. While there, he gained performance experience with a bevy of jazz artists, including legendary trumpeter Clark Terry. In 1998, Burns began attending graduate school at DePaul University in Chicago, where further performance opportunities culminated in an Outstanding Soloist award from Down Beat magazine in 1999. Since that time, Burns has recorded and/or performed with a string of name artists, including Harry Connick, Jr., pianist David Hazeltine, and the popular Chicago jump blues revival ensemble Mighty Blue Kings, with whom he was a member for over two years. Burns released his debut solo album, Passages, on Origin Records in 2006. ~ Matt Collar, Rovi
